The Potockis built their fortune at the service of Polish kings, conquering and holding the Polish eastern borderlands for several centuries until the country’s partition in 1795. After their return from Napoleon’s campaign against Russia, brothers Alfred and Arthur Potocki married and settled down. Alfred inherited acut castle in 1816.
